This Saturday was the opening of "I Must Not be So Square", a solo show by Peter Suzuki. If his name sounds familiar it is because I interviewed my friend a few months ago for
Good Habits. Peter currently lives in New York and was back home for the set up and opening of his show at Manifest in Downtown Honolulu. The show consists of a series of woodblock prints that were produced by rotating a rectangular block numerous times in order to achieve an image that is circular in nature. These black and white images range from light and delicate to dense and heavy. The show is a testament to his skill as a printmaker and his craftsmanship is revealed as you near each piece. I found images of paper clips and an accidental set of Spiderman eyes among other things. Im really stoked to see one of my friends with their own solo show. Please check out and BUY his work at Manifest. Please excuse the quality of my pictures all I had was my blackberry.
